Ellen’s Silkscreening is a medium sized apparel printing and embroidery company based in South Pasadena, California. We regularly handle printed and embroidered orders of between 24 and 5,000 units in-house on a 7-10 working day turnaround. Looking Back on ISS Long Beach, and Gildan’s Updated Classic

Once a year screenprint shop owners and operators converge on the Long Beach Convention Center, to attend the garment industry’s premier trade show, Impressions Magazine’s Impression Expo. Amongst the shuffle this January were 12 members of Ellens’ core staff. The Ellens team was there to do what they do every year; to collect inside intel on the latest trends and happenings in the world of screen print and embroidery. This yearly pilgrimage is a critical part of our mission, to bring you and your team the highest quality promotional products and wearables available today.

One of this year’s biggest points of gossip was that Gildan was coming out with an update to the Gildan 2000, an industry-standard t-shirt. You have probably heard of Gildan, as the entry-level do-it-all t-shirt. It is fantastic for printing but doesn’t have the same soft hand feel as many newer premium offerings from other brands. Fast forward to yesterday, and we got our hands on some samples of the officially released new Gildan 2000, and what a difference! The new cotton formulation is very soft, without sacrificing the medium weight of the t-shirt. What you end up with is a universal fitted cut, a comfortable fabric, and something that is going to outlast more premium brands, but at an affordable entry-level cost. For many, the Gildan 2000 was written off as the baseline budget t-shirt. The naysayers may need to reconsider their stance now that they can have a touch of luxury for the same value.

Amongst other notable trends at this year’s show, was an increase in eco-friendly garment styles, new heavyweight t-shirt and streetwear cuts from our favorite brands, and an incredible update to heat transfer technology, that is worth its own blog post.
