Chubby Chipmunk Shows Us The Sweeter Side Of Deadwood
See how we dig in to making full color shirts for this South Dakota icon
Since 2005, Chubby Chipmunk Hand-Dipped Chocolates has been keeping Deadwood’s sweet tooth satisfied with delicious hand made delicacies. When they found themselves in need of custom printed apparel, they reached across state lines to us here at Ellen’s! We immediately recognized them as kindred spirits, dedicated just as we were to producing the best hand made goods possible.
In this post, we’ll take you step-by-step through the process of bringing Chubby Chipmunk’s mascot Miss Chubby to life just in time for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, beginning August 5th in Deadwood.
Our graphic artist Manny determines how many colors we need to print to capture the wide range seen in the original piece of Miss Chubby artwork. He then separates each individual layer to be made into it’s own silk screen.
Each color has to be given it’s own silk screen. Above are photos of our black screen and cyan (blue) screen; there are separate screens for white, magenta, yellow, and three more custom color mixes as well!
One of our printers, Carlos, watches over the printing on our automated press, making sure the printing runs smoothly and all the shirts are up to his high standards. He makes sure each layer of color on the shirt is just right.
When all eight layers are printed, Miss Chubby comes roaring to life!
